Character
Name: Misaki Asou
Series: Fatal Frame
Timeline: One year after the events of FF4
Canon Resource Links: http://www.cameraslens.com/fatalframewiki/index.php5?title=Misaki_Asou

Personality: Judged by her appearance, one might suspect Misaki would be one of those cliché snobby popular girls: pretty, social, outgoing, bossy, selfish, mean, etc. Now, Misaki’s personality has those sorts of traits most of the time but she means well behind her harsh words. Naturally, Misaki is a caring, good-natured person, a well-known trait within the Asou family. As she grew up, she developed a ‘tough’ side of her personality to hide the soft part of her personality (probably an easier way to explain this is that Misaki is basically a tsundere). She generally doesn’t like acting soft around people, only softening up around people she is close with like Ruka and Madoka. There are some instances where her sensitive and emotional side comes out whenever certain issues are brought up such as her severe phobia for medical businesses and staff, as well as her childhood.

Compared to the group of friends she would hang out with, minus Ruka and Madoka, Misaki’s very secretive about her personal life. The many deaths within her family, the missing memories of her childhood, and her fears and insecurities are some of the many things she generally stuff she’d rather not talk about due to the complexity of the explanations. After her experience on Rougetsu Island, her childhood and the truth behind Madoka’s death were definitely added to the list of things she’d rather not mention due to the fact they would be too painful for the girl to think about without breaking down.
An ironic part to her personality is that as much as she hates people she doesn’t completely trust knowing her personal life, she has an overactive curiosity that she’s had since she was a young girl. Many people have pointed this out and have called her a hypocrite on her part but she tends not to care. Due to her “I gotta get want I want” attitude, she just has to satisfy her curiosity or else it’ll keep bothering her forever. She knows some boundaries not to cross when attempting to seek out any sort of knowledge, however.

Concerning the deaths of her family, Misaki has grown quite numb to any kinds of loss she had to face in her life…or so she claims. Whether it was the loss of her memories, family members or even dear friends, Misaki has always tried to keep moving on with her life, a tactic she has always used since she was a little girl in an attempt to stay strong and stable in front of people. There are times where she would just break down completely when she is faced with very confronting personal questions, stuff she always tried to avoid. Her breakdowns are usually short-lived, however, and are usually replaced by more aggressive feelings, trying to move on with her life as usual.

As of now, Misaki has fallen from her bratty, selfish stage in life into more of a gloomy, almost pessimistic phase as she was still suffering from the loss of her best friend and the recovery of her memories, something she deeply regrets. While Misaki may seem more gloomy and sad, it doesn’t mean the natural traits of her personality has gone away, especially her stubbornness and mean streak. If anything, if she tries to be nasty towards you in a playful tone, she probably likes you…or at least tolerates you.

First Person Sample:

[Video clicks to show a rather confused young woman, looking around the new area she was in. It rather…country-looking compared to where she’s lived. She let out frustrated sigh as she placed a hand on her hip like the snobby popular girls sometimes do. The confused look on her face was replaced by a more annoyed look.]]

…Just where am I? Am I still in Japan or what?

…Might as well take a look ar- [[A chirp was heard from above as a small Pidove almost flew right into her; it flies out of the way in time. Misaki nearly trips trying to avoid the bird.]]

YOU STUPID BIRD! [[A nasty look was seen on the teenager’s face as the Pidove could be seen landing in front of her. A hurt look could be seen on the bird’s face when it heard the girl’s scolding.]]

Don’t you know you ALMOST… [[Misaki’s eyes could be seen widening as she looked at the small bird’s hurt expression. Her body could be seen almost shaking as she collapsed onto her knees. It almost looked as if she was in shock.]] …flew into me…?

Third Person Sample:

Being in this world was completely different for Misaki.

Misaki was used to living in the city, surrounding by many buildings and people, not trees and these weird animal-like
creatures. At least in the city, she knew where to go and where everything was. Being in this place felt like a completely new country for the girl. The biggest thing, however, the she was not used to the exposure of actual live animals. I mean, she’s been to zoos and all but not like actual encounters with animals.

She didn’t really like animals, to be honest; she especially didn’t like birds. She didn’t know why Madoka, of all people, would like them. She was a quiet girl and they were noisy animals. Sounded like a weird match up to the young woman.

They always reminded her of Madoka though.

The Pidove in front of her also reminded her of Madoka. It even looked like her with the hurt expression on its face, like how Madoka always looked at her whenever she scolded her.

Staring at the Pidove brought back familiar feelings Misaki wanted to forget: guilt

In a quick movement, Misaki scooped the small bird into her arms, hugging it closely to her chest. The Pidove held a confused look on its face as Misaki tried to fight back the emotions stirring up inside of her. She couldn’t let herself surrender to her emotions so easily in front of a pathetic little creature like that Pidove. She couldn’t show her emotions to anyone.

“I’m sorry…” she muttered to the bird, a faint look of sorrow in her eyes. “…I’m sorry, Madoka…” As much as she hated being cheesy, she couldn’t resist calling the creature by her dear friend’s name; it reminded her too much like Madoka.

Besides, it might be better than naming the Pidove some other ridiculous name like some people do with their animal companions.
